LEGAL AID THROUGH BANGLADESH MAHILA PARISHAD

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad has been uninterruptedly working for establishing women’s human rights through women’s empowerment in all spheres for around four decades since its inception. One part of this activity it has been giving legal aid to women’s who are victims of violence to ensure justice for around three decades. At present legal aid is given to women’s victim all over the country through central office and 61 organizational district branches of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.

Except government holidays lawyers work from 10 am till 6 pm at central office of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad to operate legal aid activities duly and to give information about legal rights, to take direct complain informing about legal remedies through counseling, to conduct mediation through “Board of Mediation” taking both party’s consent, to conduct cases and other required legal help.

Legal aid is given in matters of two types to women who are victims of violence at Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. (1) Any family matter relating to family laws, i.e. to keep wife in his father’s house, do not maintain wife and children, guardianship of children, dower, dissolution of marriage peacefully on failure of mediation. (2) Any matter relating to repression of women and children, i.e. torture for dowry, rape, gang rape, trafficking, kidnapping, sexual harassment, murder, provoked suicide and other related matters.

From beginning till end of any matter Bangladesh Mahila Parishad give legal assistance uninterruptedly as per rule of the organization.
